Chinese men’s single shuttler Du Pengyu ended Indonesian Sony Dwi Kuncoro’ uninterrupted wins this week by defeating him in their quarterfinals match of the 2012 Djarum Indonesia Open on Friday.

Playing at the Indoor Stadium in the Bung Karno Sports Complex, Sony, who defeated world No. 5 Peter Hoeg Gade of Denmark and his compatriot world no. 12 Taufik Hidayat in the previous rounds, succumbed to the eight seed of the tournament at 14-21 and 15-21 in a match lasted in 52 minutes.

“I admit that both my concentration and energy have been declined. He [Du] played his game with such finesse that frustrated me,” said Sony, who entered the main draw after passing the qualification rounds, as quoted by Antara news agency.

Sony, who won Thailand Open earlier this week after recovering from back and wrist injuries, said that, unlike fast players Gade and Taufik, Du prefers long rallies with superb defense play.

The world no. 45 said that he was satisfied with his performance in the past two weeks regardless.

Meanwhile, Du Pengyu, who was beaten by the Indonesian shuttler back in the 2010 All England championship, told reporters after the match that Sony had “good reflects” as well as “rapid movement” during the match.

With Sony’s loss, host player Simon Santoso, who defeated his junior Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka at 21-17 and 21-7 in the quarterfinals, will be the only country’s hope in the semifinals, which took place on Saturday.

Simon’s next opponent will be Indian shuttler Kashyap Parupalli who edged out Hans-Kristian Vittinghus at 21-15 and 21-14 in their quarterfinal match in the US$650,000 event.
