World champion Ratchanok Intanon was well-beaten by world No.1 Li Xuerui in yesterday’s final of the Indonesian Open Superseries Premier tournament in Jakarta.
Li won 21-13, 21-13 in 37 minutes. It was her sixth victory over Ratchanok in eight meetings. It was another disappointing final for the Thai, who has been unable to produce her best form in big matches this year, having lost to Wang Yihan in the final of the Korea Open in January.
Ratchanok took home US$28,500 (about 930,000 baht) while Li earned $56,250 (about 1.8 million baht) for her third title of the year.
Despite failing to win her first title of the year, Ratchanok was satisfied after going so deep into the tournament.
“I am happy to win back my confidence and have a good performance,” she said.
This week, Ratchanok will play at the $750,000 Australian Open, which will be held at the State Sports Centre in Sydney.
In the final of the men’s singles, third seed Jan Jorgensen of Denmark defeated Kenichi Tago of Japan 21-18, 21-18 in 44 minutes.
The title in the women’s doubles went to the Chinese pair of Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei while compatriots Xu Chen and Ma Jin won in the mixed doubles.
In the men’s doubles, South Korea’s Lee Yong-Dae and Yoo Yeon-Seong landed the title at the expense of top seeds Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan.
